‘My work is a visual celebration of my experience of the natural world. It evolves as a conversation between myself and the canvas’

Rachel Melchers is an Australian artist living and working in Mudgee in central west NSW. She draws inspiration from the natural environment and her emotional and sensory response to the landscape. Her semi-abstract paintings evolve intuitively with layers built up, drawn into and scraped away. With a strong focus on colour and texture, Rachel’s paintings are vibrant celebrations of her experience of the natural world.

The Corner Store Gallery Regional Art Prize opens at 6pm on Thursday 20th August and runs until 30th August. ‘On the Back Road’ is a finalist!

open studio

Rachel will be opening up her studio to visitors from 25th - 28th September, 10am-1pm. Come for a cuppa, a look and a chat :)

I’m away from the studio for a few weeks but I know I’ll be ‘champing at the bit’ to get stuck into the oil paints when I return. As I mentioned in a previous post, I’ve been working towards getting a cohesive collectio
I was really happy with this painting when I ‘finished’ it last year. I did an online course with an artist I really like to learn his approach / technique and I followed it with this painting. I DID learn - and I use some of this insight
This is a BIG canvas - I don’t know where it’s going but I trust it will guide me in the right direction. I’ll be away for a few weeks so when I come back it might have a story for me. For now it’s literally a case of one mark
